Breton Music Revives in Morlaix After Decades
After a long hiatus, Breton music lessons are set to resume in Morlaix, offering a cultural resurgence for the next generation. The Sonerien Bro Montroulez bagad will spearhead this initiative, reigniting a passion for traditional sounds.
Bagad’s Origins
The Sonerien Bro Montroulez bagad was founded in 1980. This occurred following the disappearance of the Pleyber-Christ Bagad’s Singlers. The individual who animated the Pleyberian bagad, Henri Le Gall, has recently stepped down.
New Lessons Announced
Starting the next school year, lessons will be available every Wednesday afternoon. These will cover the bagpipe, bombard, and snare drum for children in the “thousand club,” starting from seven years old. Instruments will be supplied to the students, facilitating access to these historic musical instruments.
Open House Success
An open house event took place on June 28th. Held in Lostwithiel park, this event allowed visitors to explore the instruments and interact with the bagad musicians. Several people have already registered their interest. The bagad plans to be present at the association forum in September.
The global music industry saw a 10.1% rise in revenue during 2023 (IFPI Report 2024), highlighting the continuing significance of music.
