China’s C909 Jetliner Soars Past 24 Million Passengers as Domestic Production Gains Altitude

Shanghai, China – June 29, 2025 – Today marks the ninth anniversary of commercial operations for China’s domestically produced C909 regional jetliner, a significant milestone in the nation’s aviation ambitions. With 166 aircraft now delivered and over 24 million passenger trips completed, the C909 is rapidly becoming a cornerstone of China’s short-haul air travel network.

The C909, a turbofan aircraft seating between 78 and 97 passengers, is designed for routes spanning 2,225 too 3,700 kilometers (1,382-2,299 miles) [[3]]. This range makes it ideally suited for popular domestic routes within China and increasingly, regional international connections.

Recent developments demonstrate the C909’s expanding reach. Lao Airlines recently took delivery of its first C909 aircraft, signaling the jet’s growing presence in Southeast Asia [[1]] and [[2]]. The Civil Aviation Authority of Laos issued the Aircraft Type Acceptance Certificate (ATC) for the C909 on March 18, 2025, paving the way for its integration into the Lao Airlines fleet [[2]].COMAC is actively supporting Lao Airlines with training, maintenance, and material support to ensure a smooth transition.
