Now, for NATO members, spending on defense at two percent is no longer a goal in the future, but an absolute minimum.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that NATO member countries should increase defense spending to a minimum of 2% of GDP, reports Spiegel.
Stoltenberg expressed the expectation that allies who have not yet reached this level will do so “as soon as possible”.
“Two percent is no longer a goal in the future, but an absolute minimum that everyone should achieve – not in a decade, but as soon as possible,” Stoltenberg said.
He also said that NATO defense ministers will discuss the possible transfer of Western fighter jets to Ukraine in June.
