Piaget Unveils New Extravaganza Collection in Barcelona
Swiss luxury watchmaker and jeweler Piaget recently showcased its newest high jewelry collection in Barcelona, Spain. The event featured a dazzling array of pieces, continuing a trend of brands choosing unique locations for unveiling their collections and targeting affluent clientele.
Barcelona’s Architectural Gem
The setting for the Extraleganza high jewelry event was an architectural masterpiece designed by 20th-century Catalan artist Xavier Corberó. The space, with its brutalist yet refined design, perfectly embodied Piaget’s desired aesthetic.
“We found this house very suited to what we wanted to say: this ’60s/’70s vibe, the shapes, the arcades, this mix of artworks and concrete, very brutalist and at the same time very sophisticated, very graphic. And we love the Mediterranean spirit at Piaget,”

A Collection of High-Value Pieces
The collection displayed roughly 50 new pieces, including the Kaleidoscope necklace, Wave Illusion necklace, and Flowing Curves necklace. Some pieces, like the Kaleidoscope and Wave Illusion necklaces, were sold during the first day of the event. The luxury market is booming, with sales of luxury goods reaching an estimated $340 billion in 2024, up from the previous year (Statista 2024).

A Nod to the Past
When taking on the role in 2021, Comar asked Stéphanie Sivrière, the brand’s creative director, to explore the brand’s archives. This included going back to the 1970s when Piaget was linked with the “extravaganza” of the French and Italian Riviera.
“A collection that inspires us a lot is 1969’s ‘XXIe’ collection, where they introduced wearing a watch as a piece of jewellery, on a necklace or as a large cuff. It was a pivotal collection for Piaget,”

The latest collection also highlights watchmaking with a watch-cum-necklace called Swinging Sautoir. The synergy between watches and jewelry is a key aspect of the brand.
Founded in 1874 as a maker of movements before releasing its own watches, the company launched jewelry in 1959. Richemont acquired the brand in 1988. Piaget is within Richemont’s specialist watchmakers division.
